In the past two decades, we have demonstrated that inflammation could significantly contribute to the aetiology of depression and neurodegeneration.First, we demonstrated that only proinflammatory but not anti-or non-inflammatory cytokines could significantly induce anxiety/stress like behaviours, impaired memory, increase turnovers ofmonoamine neurotransmitters, reduce serotonin transportation and changed neurotransmitter release during normal condition and stress exposure.
