Harmful algal blooms occur all over the world, destroying aquatic ecosystems and threatening other organisms. The culture supematant of the marine algicidal actinomycete JS01 was able to lyse marine alga Phaeocystis globosa (Prymnesiophyceae).Actinomycete were isolated through the dilution-plating method and identified based on the scanning electron microscope, physiological and biochemical characteristics and 16S rDNA sequence analysis.Physiological and biochemical responses to oxidative stress in Phaeocystis globosa were investigated to elucidate the mechanism involved in JS01 inhibition of algal growth. Our results showed that actinomycete named JS01 with high algicidal activity against Phaeocystis globosa was identified as Streptomyces griseoplanus JS01.
