Objective To investigate the practical significance of the JumpSTART program for children in assessing the severity of injury in children in a group of children with large car accidents. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the medical records of 20 children who were treated for group injuries (more than 3 cases of wounded, at least 1 case of children under 14 years old) due to a large-scale car accident from December 2010 to December 2012. In the emergency department, the children were followed up by JumpSTART test. After the hospitalization, the internationally accepted recognized ISS score accurately reflected the severity of the injury. Compare the consistency of the two assessment methods. Results The JumpSTART classification was consistent with ISS (Kappa = 0.474, P = 0.003). Conclusion The JumpSTART program can be used to assess the severity of a child’s injury during a medical emergency with a group of children.
