Lipid droplets (LDs) are a cellular organelle that consists of a neutral lipid core, a monolayer phospholipid membrane and proteins.Accumulated studies suggest that LDs are involved in the synthesis, storage, transportation, modification and hydrolysis of lipids, as well as in protein storage and degradation.The excessive storage of lipids, especially ectopic lipid accumulation, is a major risk factor for metabolic syndromes.Therefore, LD research plays an important role in understanding metabolic diseases.
