Chinese aniseed (Illicium verum Hooker fil.), native to southern China and northern Vietnam, is a traditional spice and medicinal plant in China. However, endophytic fungi and their relationship with star anise yield of I.verum remain enigmatic.Foliar endophytic fungi of I.verum trees with different star anise yields were investigated in Guangxi, southern China.A total of 412 fungal strains were isolated from 60 individuals of I.verum, and were identified into 22 fungal taxa based on morphology and molecular techniques.
