Background: Na+/taurocholate co-transporter polypeptide(NTCP),localized on the membrane of human hepatocytes,is the main hepatocellular sodium-dependent co-transporter protein for uptaking bile acid.NTCP also acts as a functional hepatocyte receptor responsible for the entry of hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection.Previous studies indicated that the expression of NTCP may be affected by the proliferating status of hepatocyte. However, the underlying mechanism remains elusive.
