Introduction Microfluidic device is a powerful tool for synthesizing of polymeric particles frommonodisperse droplets.Various types of microfluidic devices have been developed toprepare polymeric particles [1].In general, the process of producing polymeric particlesinclude the formation of monomer droplets and the following polymerization reactions. Therefore,it is usually difficult to prepare polymer particles much smaller than the initialdroplet size.In addition,it is difficult to control the degree of polymerization. Here wepresent a microfluidic process to produce polymer particles from polymer molecules (Fig.1).We utilizes the non-equilibrium o/w droplets, which are formed using water and awater-soluble organic solvent. In the experiments,we prepared polystyrene (PS) andPS-pyrene particles by using ethyl acetate (EA) as the solvent, and examined factors affectingthe size and the morphology of the formed particles.
