There is limited information about the role of cervical epithelial cells in genital innate immunity against herpes simplex virus type 2(HSV-2)infection.We thus examined whether human cervical epithelial cells can be immunologically activated to produce antiviral factors that inhibit HSV-2 replication.Human cervical epithelial cells expressed functional toll-like receptor 3(TLR3)and retinoic acid-inducible Ⅰ(RIG-Ⅰ),which could be activated by double-strand RNAs(dsRNA),resulting in the induction of endogenous interferon lambda(IFN-λ.).
