A Korean folk medicine, IAAT, had been used in traditional medicinal clinic for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. In the present study, the ethanol extract of IAAT was investigated for anti-inflammatory properties in bone-marrow derived mast cells (BMMC) and in vivo model.IAAT strongly inhibited a degranulation reaction in a dose dependent manner with an IC50 value of 12.89 ng/ml.In addition, the generation of prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and leukotriene C4 (LTC4) was inhibited in BMMC in a concentration-dependent manner with IC50 values of 47.89 μg/ml and 32.53μg/ml, respectively.Furthermore, IAAT reduced compound48/80-induced systemic anaphylactic shock in mice. These results suggested that IAAT might be useful in regulating allergic reactions.
