In the paper the microstructure and properties of the surface coating for Cr12MoV steel treated by the TD salt-bath vanadizing treatment are investigated.The results indicate that after the TD salt-bath vanadizing treatment under the condition of 950 ℃×5 h+oil quenching+180 ℃×2 h,the Cr12MoV steel could obtain a surface coating whose thickness is about 11.4 μm (Fig.1).The coating is mainly composed of vanadium carbide,and the thickness and microstructure of coating are also uniform and compact respectively.In addition,after the TD salt-bath vanadizing treatment,the Cr12MoV steel could obtain the super-high surface microhardness of 2586 HV (Fig.2).Then the wear resistance property of Cr12MoV steel is improved drastically.
