Large amounts of oceanic slab materials have been transported into earths interior in subduction zones at least since circa 3 billion years ago (Shirey and Richardson,2011),producing temperature,chemical,and mineral heterogeneities (e.g.,Helffrich and Wood,2001).Seismic tomography studies reveal continuous fast anomalies (1-2 %faster than the surrounding mantle for P wave) in the mantle transition zone (MTZ) beneath eastern China,extending from the Japan Wadati-Benioff zone to Ordos Block,over a longitude interval of circa 30°,nearly 1000-1500 km from east to west (e.g.,Huang and Zhao,2006).
