Three pillar[5]arene-based phosphine oxides tethered with ten chelating groups on both sides of the pillar were synthesized. These macrocycles were found to demonstrate high efficiency and selectivity in extraction of some representative lanthanides and actinides, especially Th(Ⅳ) and U(Ⅵ) in acidic media. In addition, the moderate efficiency was observed in differentiating europirm(Ⅲ) and americium(Ⅲ) in the presence of a synergist (Br6-COSAN).
