Effective root phenotyping requires low-cost,high throughput techniques so that sufficiently large numbers of genotypes can be studied at suitable levels of replication.This study reports root phenotypes of >700 B.napus genotypes,representing diversity panels,two mapping populations and UK Recommended List cultivars,at approximately 24 replicates per genotype.Plants were grown in hydroponic tanks,at 768 plants per run,on filter paper (Anchor Paper Co.,Minnesota,USA) suspended in 0.25x Hoaglands solution,for 14 days.Recommended list cultivars were also grown at two UK field sites in 2012-2013;roots were sampled at approximately 6-leaf stage and washed.
