The conservation of the biodiversity has become one of the most important strategies in botanical gardens in Japan.Not only it directly save the endangered plants but also useful for botanical gardens to appeal their value to the society.Since 1877 the Botanical Gardens, University of Tokyo, has been the center of the research of plant systematics in Japan and live collections, as well as herbarium specimens, has been accumulated.
