Vitamin D is a nutrient and hormone that influences many biological functions in humans and other animals.Metabolites of vitamin D (calciferols) and of other nutrients such as vitamin A (retinoids) can affect fundamental cell properties such as growth, differentiation, and survival, with a wide range of physiological and pathological implications.We are interested in the cellular and extracellular transport of nutrients and hormones in different biological systems, especially endocytic transport of the vitamins and their circulatory carrier proteins, e.g., vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP), and the regulation of such transport.
