Oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.,genome AACC,2n = 38) has a narrow genetic base and suffers heavy yield losses caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. In this study we used a hexaploidisation strategy to directly introduce S.sclerotiorum resistance from Brassica incana (CC,2n = 18) into B.napus.Three hexaploid hybrids (AACCCC,confirmed by fluorescent in situ hybridization) were developed via an interspecific cross between B.napus cv.Zhongshuang 9 and a B.incana resistance donor, using in vitro ovule culture to rescue hexaploid plants.
