Concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world.It is attractive in many applications because it offers considerable strength at a relatively low cost, general availability, and wide applicability.But this popularity of concrete also carries with it a great environmental cost.However, environmental concern,stemming from the high energy expense and CO2 emission associated with cement manufacture, have brought about pressures to reduce cement consumption through the use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).This paper summarizes the efforts to improve the environmental friendly of concrete to make suitable as a green material in construction.The suitable replacement for Portland cement, especially those by-products of industrial processes such as fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag, silica fume and rice husk ash.The use of SCMs in concrete mixes can have a major offect on the environment, on the other hand also make concrete stronger, more durable, and more resistant to chemical and environmental attack.
