Colorectal cancer (CRC) is divided into sporadic and familial (hereditary) types.Approximately 75% to 80% of CRC cases originate sporadically, which arise from at least two different carcinogenic pathways. The chromosomal instability pathway follows the Vogelstein model and shows mutation of classical oncogenes and antioncogenes (K-ras, APC, DCC,and 53) and chromosomal alterations (loss and gain). The mutator pathway features microsatellite instability because of a defect in DNA mismatch repair genes (hMLH1 or hMSH2).
