OBJECTIVE To study the neuroprotective effects and mechanism of ZY-1 (a derived compound from nicotine) on hippocampal slices insulted by glutamate, NaN3 or H2O2 in vitro.METHODS Different types of models of brain injury in vitro were developed by glutamate 1 mmol· L-1, NaN3 10 mmol· L-1 or H2 02 2 mmol· L-1.After 30 min of preincubation with ZY-1 or nicotine, hippocampal slices were subjected to glu tamate, NaN3 or H2O2, then the tissue activities were evaluated by using the 2, 3, 5-triphenyltetrazolium-chloride method.
