The South African food industry is in part shaped by the major agricultural activities of the region and in part by a small (but growing) First World economy in a larger Third World one.The agroprocessing industry contributes 10% to South Africas GDP and employs 5% of the economically active population.The agricultural sector employs another 10% of the population.Agroprocessing is the third largest manufacturing sector in South Africa producing 16.4% or R131.6bn ($16.5bn)of total manufacturing sales,while exports in 2004/5 were R23.1 bn ($2.9bn).
