There are improvement methods of fatigue strength,such as finishing methods and peening methods.Finishing methods aim to decrease stress concentration at weld toe.Peening methods aim to decrease high tensile welded residual stress by introducing beneficial compressive residual stress at weld toes.However,peening methods still have a problem,which is applicability for welded joints of steel bridges before construction.Because peening methods are affected by stress ratio,they are no longer effective after construction of steel bridges.On the other hand,peening methods take advantage of fabrication cost compared to finishing methods.Therefore,it is desirable that peening methods could be available for welded joints of steel bridges before construction.
