Applications of new staining reagents in biological electron microscopy

In biological electron microscopy,in order to increase contrast of the ultrastructure of cells and tissues,people need to use some specific reagents,typically metal salts,for staining.These reagents can improve electron density,enhance electronic scattering,thereby enhance the contrast of the images between various structures,or selectively display some structures or compositions.Electron microscopy currently mainly uses the uranyl acetate as staining reagent,which is harmful to the environment and human health for its radioactivity.
