Although more than 80% of patients with advanced prostate cancer initially respond to androgen-deprivation, prostate cancer cells progress from hormone-dependent to hormone-independent and irreversible resistance to androgen-deprivation therapy will occur in the vast majority of patients.Most therapeutic modalities can not significantly prolong the survival of patients with hormone-refractory prostate cancer.Thus, development of novel treatments is mandatory.Bisphosphonates (BPs) have been established as successful agents for the prevention and treatment of bone diseases.
