The novel coronary molecule with multiple functional groups was prepared, and then homogeneous self-assembled monolayers were fabricated successfully from the coronary molecule.A combination of ellipsometry, contact angle,AFM and UMT-2MT (a ball-on-plate tribometer) were used to study their surface morphology and macro-tribological properties.Self-assembly of coronary molecules resulted in the formation of monomolecular films and the thickness was 9.8±0.3 (A),which is good agreement with the theoretical molecular length. The results of UMT-2MT tribometer showed that the coronary molecule SAMs has smaller friction coefficients compared with bare silicon. The bare silicon surface is characterized by severe plastic deformations and fractures after 15 min sliding under normal load of 0.05 N and 0.1 N.while much wear debris presenteed around the wear scar.
