Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative joint disease that affects weight-bearing joints, including knee and hip.Progressive degeneration and loss of cartilage is a hallmark of OA, although the disease involves the entire joint, including subchondral bone and synovium.Currently available pharmacological OA treatments can provide temporary pain relief, but offer no structural benefit. There is a great unmet need for disease-modifying OA drugs (DMOADs) that could slow, halt, or reverse the progressive course of the disease and thus convey long-term symptomatic benefit.
