Atmospheric NH 3 is an important gaseous component to neutralize acidic aerosol particles and has an important role by potentially increasing the number of aerosol particles.Major source for atmospheric NH 3 in polar region may include animal waste and the ocean.Since sea ice is formed over polar ocean in winter,air-sea exchange of marine NH 3 might be modified by sea ice extent. To understand factors controlling atmospheric NH 3 concentration in polar region,we made measurements of NH 3 and aerosol chemistry at Syowa station (39.6 o E,69.0 o S),located on east Ongul island in east Antarctica.
