Mitochondrial ribosome proteins(MRPs),which are encoded by the nuclear genomic DNA,are important for mitochondrialencoded protein synthesis and mitochondrial function.Emerging evidence suggests that several MRPs also exhibit important extra-mitochondrial functions,such as involvement in apoptosis,protein biosynthesis and signal transduction.
