Nitidine chloride (NC), a benzophenanthridine alkaloid, h as many biological properties, such as anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer.However, its cytotoxicity was also reported.Our previous study demonstrated NC was a high affinity substrate of human organic cation transporter 1 (hOCT1) and 3 (hOCT3), which mediated the hepatocellular uptake of NC and subsequently caused hepatotoxicity, while CYPs, such as CYP3A4, mediated the metabolism of NC, and attenuated the hepatic toxicity of NC.Thus, we deduce the NC-induced injury of kidney might more severe since lower express of CYPs and higher level of OCT2 which might also mediate the cellular uptake of NC.
