It has been established that Sulfolobus cells utilize the ESCRT-Ⅲ based machinery for cell division.The protein genes are also conserved in the genome of many other Crenarchaea,Thaumarchaeota, Aigarchaeota, andLokiarchaeota.The machinery comprises three proteins, CdvA (archaea-specific), CdvB (ESCRT-Ⅲ-like), and CdvC (Vps4-1ike).In addition to CdvB,Sulfolobuscells also encode three other ESCRT-Ⅲ homologs termed CdvB l, CdvB2 and CdvB3.
