The linear theory,large signal theory and time-dependent simulation were applied on the study of gyrotron backward wave oscillators (gyro-BWO).The linear analysis,which considers the convective loss due the finite system size,shows that the start oscillation current is scaled with the inverse cubic power of the interaction length and the absolute growth rate is scaled with the square root of the difference between the beam current and start oscillation current,which is consistent with the numerical results.
