The main reflector of a radio telescope is always subject to variable gravitational forces when tilted in different elevation angles.Depending on size and stiffness,the paraboloid is deformed and the individual signal paths do not converge in a single focal point any more.As a consequence,the coherence of the phases is blurred and the group delay may be corrupted.The influence of each ray depends on its distance from the optical axis through the characteristics of the feed horn which is described by the feed taper and a so-called illumination function.
