The transcription factor Atonal homolog 1 (Atoh(1)) plays crucial roles in the differentiation of intestinal epithelial cells. We have reported that aberrant Wnt signal by APC deletion causes Atoh(1) protein degradation by GSK3, resulting in maintaining the undifferentiated state of sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC).On the other hand, a recent study has indicated that the Atoh(1) protein is expressed in mucinous colon cancer (MC) and signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC).However, the roles of the Atoh1 protein in MC are unknown. So, we aim to elucidate Atoh(1) function in MC/SRCC.
