Although vital organs are routinely monitored during congenital heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB),the brain is not typically monitored.Neurological monitoring devices are readily available and the doctor can now monitor the brain during pediatric cardiac surgery. The use of electroencephalographic monitors,near-infrared cerebral oximetry, and transcranial Doppler ultrasound during CPB were discussed in this review.
