Long term potentiation (LTP) is the key cellular mechanism for physiological learning and pathological chronic pain.In case of persistent chronic pain, peripheral injury triggered LTP in the spinal cord dorsal horn and cortical synapses in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC).Most of previous work focused on central sensory synapses that received and integrated sensory information, little information is available about the possible plasticity in deep ACC neurons or output cortical neurons.
