Wingless(Wnt) is involved in embryonic and adult progenitor cells differentiation, and has the ability to promote or inhibit cardiogenesis.However, the role of Wnts in differentiation of resident cardiac stem cells (CSCs) in adult mammalian hearts, is conjectural.Data from our laboratory has showed that 5-Aza can differentiate sheep MSC to cardiac progenitor cell lineages,and has been used to initiate stem cell cardiomyogenic differentiation and homing.As Wnt signalling promotes cardiogenesis, understanding the involvement of Wnts and 5-Aza to promote CSC differentiation could provide insights on ways to harness CSCs for cardiac repair.
