<正>Historically,there have been at least two very different ways to understand the Olympic Spirit. According to Daniel Mendelsohn,the founder of the modern Olympic Games Baron Pierre de Coubertin believed that the Games should encourage the "spirit of friendship." Inspired by an idealization of British amateur sportsmanship,de Coubertin claimed that the Games should provide occasions for the athletes to engage in sports events in a gentlemanly manner,and this should create the virtue of "chivalry," which is expressed in the athletes’ principle "of honor and disinterest."
