Cadmium contamination is an increasing environmental problem of late. However, the cadmiums absorption and transportation mechanisms in plants remain unclear.By using the Non-invasive Micro-test Technology (NMT, www.xuyue.net), cadmium fluxes in the roots of Arabidopsis treated with 100 μM CdCl2 were directly measured. The results indicated that steady influxes of cadmium were present and changed into effluxes by adding 1 mM H2O2 (final concentration) to the external liquid media.Further tests with additions of Na3VO4 and a combination of Na3VO4 and H2O2 demonstrated similar results as did trials with H2O2 alone, namely the cadmium influxes were reversed to effluxes. So, the absorption and transportation of Cadmium could be related to both PM H+-ATPase activities and oxidation stresses.
