Objective Paediatric cataract is one of the commonest causes of avoidable blindness. In Nepal, the prevalence of childhood blindness is 0.63/1000.Management of paediatric cataract is a challenge for ophthalmologists because of increased intraoperative difficulties, increased postoperative inflammation and changing refractive state of the eye, common postoperative complications and a tendency to develop amblyopia. For a good visual rehabilitation, it requires a regular follow up not only due to unstable refractive status during childhood but also due to change in surgically induced astigmatism which is seen more in adult due to less scleral rigidity. In developing countries like Nepal, presentation is very late and follow up rate is less, hence complete visual rehabilitation is hard to achieve. This study was designed to find the residual surgically induced astigmatism after 1 month follow up with a thought that it would give a gross idea of prescribing cylinder at first post operative day if doubt on follow up is suspected.
