The order Artiodactyla contains many species around the world including many endangered ones. For the purpose of conservation and genetic studies on Artiodactyls,we designed a set of general primer pairs to amplify the complete mtDNA of part of the order Artiodactyla.Using this primer set,the PCR products were amplified successfully in six species, belonging to four different families. The sequencing results demonstrated that this primer set was useful in at least four families (Cervidae,Bovidae,Moschidae,Suidae). This new primer set will be useful and versatile in obtaining the mtDNA sequence information for population genetics and molecular evolutionary studies of the Artiodactyla species.
