Aluminum based fiber and/or wire reinforced composites are extensively employed in aerospace, space, automobile and other structural applications. This study pertains to the microstructural and mechanical properties of explosive compacted aluminum composite produced by alternatively placing aluminum foils and stainless steel wire meshes.Stacks containing three to four layers of aluminum foils(0.3 mm)and wire mesh are explosively compacted subjected to varied loading ratios.Microstructural characterization of clads reveals the significance of kinetic energy spent at the interface.Mechanical Testing viz.,Vickers hardness,Ram tensile tests are conducted on the aluminum wire mesh reinforced composites and the results are presented.
