Many benzimidazole compounds can emit characteristic fluorescence in various organic solvents and aqueous solutions,which make them used in the field of fluorescence detection.[1] Based on our previous work[2,3] on the syntheses of serial 1,3,5-tri(5-methylbenzimidazol-2-yl)benzene(TMBB) compounds and their fluorescent application,herein we report on a new benzimidazole-based fluorescent probe TMBB for fluoride ion detection(Figure 1).The probe TMBB exhibits a highly selective response to F-among various anions.The detection limit is determined to be 1.07 μM,which is much lower than that of the enforceable drinking water standard for F-(210 μM) set by the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA).
