Enhancement of the longitudinal displacement of ultrasonic transducers is demonstrated using concept of a wave reflector which is inserted in between the piezoelectric ring and the supporting structure. Instead of transmission, the wave is reflected to the incident side to enhace the produced mechanical displacement of the transducer. The reflectors made of stainless steel mesh with different geometry are experimentally studied. A design parameter “air ratio” for the reflector is defined by how much empty space occupied within unit area of mesh material. The experimental results show that at a proper air ratio, reflector improves the displacement up to 40%.
