The phylogenetic relationship in Actiniddia, Saurauia, and Clematoclethra has long been under debate.Early floral development was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and compared in Clematoclethra scandens and Saurauia nepaulensis (Actinidiaceae). In Saurauia nepaulensis, five sepals are initiated in two-fifths quincuncial sequence, while five petals appear in one whorl with a delay time. The five-petals primordial are swollen long after the sepals are shaped well, and meanwhile the first whorl of about 17 stamens are also obviously initiated.
