Self-assembled one-dimensional Nanowires down to several nano-meters have attracted much attention due to not only the fundamental interests in nanoscale-confined properties but also novel nano-device applications, where existing nano-materials have not been applicable.Among various nanowire materials,"Oxide Nanowire" is most promising candidate for Microchemistry and Microsystems, due to their robust surface properties and fascinating redox surface events especially contacting with water, which are hardly attainable to other conventional semiconductor nanowires. In this talk,we demonstrate a concept how to create well-defined oxide nanowires via so-called vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) methodology,[1-9] and ii) the application example for DNA manipulation and separation in microfluidics with spatial controlled oxide nanowires.[10] One of most fascinating features in applying VLS grown oxide nanowires into microfluidics is the precise spatial controllability of nanoscale objects, just where we want. The nanowire structures can be designed even as 3D nanostructures, which had been difficult in conventional lithography techniques. We hope this present oxide nanowire concept stimulates a research in microchemistry and microsystems.
