RGB LEDs modules with on board LIN transceivers become state of the art for ambient interior lighting in new vehicle generations. While having a microcontroller, color calibration is one of numerous advantages of this technology. This technology developed by HELLA provides under various environmental conditions light with a color stability, which remains far below the threshold of the human eye.Short and long term measurements confirm that the same visible color will be achieved for all interior light functions within the car.Different types of addressing single module within a LIN tree, like fixed addresses or so called auto-addressing, gives automakers a wide range of flexibility for integration into cars electrical architecture. One major trend in the future of car interior lighting will be the personalization of ambient lighting in respect to color and dynamic.Concepts based on scalable Interior Lighting Control Units (ICU) ambient lighting will be adapted to factors like music, driving speed, temperature or ambient brightness.Single ambient lighting scenarios up to personalized storybooks may be generated via smartphone applications. Also in combination with functional lighting, color calibrated LIN-RGB modules are offering a wide field of styling opportunities.Because of the stability representing one defined color coordinate, the technology can be mixed in applications with the light of white light generated by LED with color conversion.
