Nonlinear ionization yields are intimately connected to the local intensity variation within the focal volume of the driving laser pulse.Ion microscopy in connection with time-of-flight spectroscopy is an ideal tool to elucidate such processes, because all relevant intensities, from the onset of ionization of a specific charge state to saturation and up to depletion can be inspected, quasi in a single shot.
