Objective: Few reports have examined the association between tinnitus and proinflammatory cytokines in the cochlear nucleus (CN) in a rat model of tinnitus.Methodology: Rats were divided into four groups: control group;acute treatment group with salicylate injected once;chronic treatment groups with repetitive injections of salicylate for 3 days and 7 days, respectively;recovery groups with 14 days and 28 days, respectively, post-chronic salicylate administration.The tinnitus-like behavior of rats were detected by the gap prepulse inhibition of acoustic startle (GPIAS) paradigm, and then we investigated the expression levels ofTNF-α, IL6, and NR2A mRNA and protein in the cochlear nucleus and compared synapses ultrastructure in the cochlear nucleus of tinnitus rats with normal rats under transmission electron microscope.
