One principal reason for the poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients is a strong propensity for the lymphatic dissemination of tumor cells which is one of the most important metastatic routes for pancreatic cancer.It has been reported that histologically nodal metastasis is an important prognostic factor in patients with pancreatic cancer.In reality, however, most patients with pancreatic cancer suffer from postoperative relapse, notwithstanding histologically confirmed curative resection and even tumor-free lymph nodes.
