Background: Several previous epidemiological studies have found that low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. However, recent randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) results showed that elevated HDL-C did not reduce the incidence of CVD events.HDL-C may not fully reflect HDL-related cardioprotection.High-density lipoprotein particle (HDL-P) as a transportation carrier of cholesterol, the association between HDL-P and CVD has gained more and more attention.
