In the present work a new approach to the prediction of the mechanical properties of pipes produced by the UOE process is described.Such an approach is based on numerical modelling of both the cold deformation process and the effects of the deformation on the material properties.The aim is to set-up a tool capable of supporting the process engineer in the job of producing pipes fulfilling given requirements in terms of mechanical properties,properly acting on the relevant process parameters.The work focuses on the production at Baosteel mill of X80 pipes fulfilling the requirements of the strain-based design.
